This will be eye candy for scholars of nationalism in Egypt and the Middle East. I knew about the project since Elaine was conducting fieldwork in Egypt, now the results of the projects archival work have been online for sometime.

Ya’coub Sanou’ (James Sanua) (1939-1912) is a central figure for anyone interested in journalism, caricature, cartoon, representation, nationalism and theatre.  His are the earliest carton images of Egypt as Nation according to Beth Baron (p.58).
